To nye år i liberal kamp for demokratiet i Hviterussland

«The Young Liberals project in Belarus aims at promoting democratic youth organizations in Belarus, aid them in their struggle for democracy and freedom, educate them in the proper functioning and organization of politically engaged youth groups, and further the understanding of the situation and challenges in Belarus among Norwegian youth, both inside and outside of our organization.
Belarus is considered to be one of the last dictatorships in Europe, and is ruled in an authoritarian manner by Lukashenko and his security apparatus. Opposition youth groups promoting freedom and democracy exists, but they are divided, weak, and frequently poorly organized. Overcoming the control of the Belarusian KGB and other state organs, and repudiating the propagandist lies of the regime is a major challenge. The primary aim of our project is to use our organizational skills and experience to educate and cooperate with the Belarusian youth opposition to function more effectively. This education includes topics such as organizational structure and culture, conflict resolution within organizations, effective outreach to youth to capitalize on their idealism and enthusiasm, and how to campaign in difficult conditions to create an understanding of the oppositions political goals and ideals amongst the wider population.
Organizations in Belarus operate within a very difficult legal framework and frequently run into problems with the authorities. This raises the bar for people who are considering actively joining youth organizations, and creates a number of other challenges when it comes to running the organizations on a day-to-day basis. Our presence in Belarus and the assistance we can give to our partner organizations create new opportunities that otherwise would not be there, and helps young people take active part in organizational life to influence their current situation and their future.»
